“It’s a great place to hang out and have fun while I’m visiting family and friends in Toronto and playing in the Canadian Open each year”
In July 2006 as he prepared to play in the Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf and Country Club PGA Tour rookie Bubba Watson played a couple of fun-filled rounds at Bushwood Golf including setting the course record with a blazing 11-under par 61. “It’s a great place to hang out and have fun while I’m visiting family and friends in Toronto and playing in the Canadian Open each year,” says Watson whose wife Angie hails from Toronto. Bubba surprised us this year and returned this for some fun and a round at Bushwood on a beautiful May Saturday morning at 6 am with some family where he shot an impressive 63.
Now in his 18th year as a professional, Watson, 40, has quickly surfaced as an elite player on the PGA tour with an impressive two Masters championship wins. Every summer when he rolls into town for the Open Bubba heads out to Bushwood to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and a few laughs with friends.
Bubba is known on Tour as one of the game’s longest drivers and is currently ranked No. 1 on the PGA tour in driving distance averaging an astonishing 314.2 yards per drive (PGAtour.com). Along with his accomplishments on the course Bubba has demonstrated a dedication to philanthropy throughout his career, and even showed some comedic talent in his “Golf Boys” music videos featuring other tour players such as Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane, and Hunter Mahan. He is certainly someone special to watch and if you’re hanging out at Bushwood GC during the week of the Canadian Open maybe you’ll meet the course record holder in person!
